Ragged Aces First Annual WSOP Tournament

This is the first annual WSOP Tournament where we send the winner to Las Vegas to play in the $1500 WSOP Event #3 (No Limit Hold'em)

So far, interest has been high with some players and not so much with others.  I need to determine the real interest in the RAWSOP for 2008, I need to know how many people are really interested in playing for a chance to go to the WSOP.

To send someone to Vegas we need to put together $2500 (or close to it) which if we had 25 players interested in doing it would be $100 each.  I thought maybe with our list of 70 some players we might be able to get to that number.  I’m not so confident at this time that we will (your responses to this email could prove me wrong).

This leaves us with three options.

    1)      We play a game for whatever amount of money is in the post and split it like a normal tournament to the top 3

    2)      We increase the buy-in to cover the cost of the trip and everyone who plays needs to put in that amount for their seat (minus any amount they won through the Satellites)

    3)      We split the money back to the winners of the satellites if we don’t have enough players to send someone to the WSOP

Assuming we want to go with option #2, please respond to this thread if you would play in the RAWSOP on the 26th for a direct buy-in at one of the five levels below (A, B, C, D, or E):

    # of players that are interested changes the cost of playing (if we take option 2):

Level A) 8 players $300 each: This is my personal entry limit for a chance to go to Vegas and play in the WSOP is $300.  I’m pretty sure we have 8 players that would play the RAWSOP for that amount (again tell me if I’m wrong): Clark, Diana (already has $200 of the entry), Mike (already has $100 of the entry), Garrett (already has $100 of the entry), John, Joe, Jordan (already has $100 of the entry), and Nick

Level B) 10 players $250 each: we would need to add two more people to the above list that would be willing to play for this price

Level C) 12 players $200 each: we would need four more players

Level D) 16 players $150 each with a max of 2 seats per player: we would need eight more players

Level E) 25 players $100 each with a max of 2 seats per player: we would need eight more players if the 8 buy two seats or 20 if everyone buys one

I will compile the levels of interest and post the results to this thread.  Please everyone respond if you plan to play in the RAWSOP with the highest level you’d be willing to buy-in for.  If I don’t get a response, I assume you won’t play for any price.

I will play at Level A ($300) or any other level that we get to send someone to the WSOP.  Christine would play at the $100 level.

I have heard from the Svensk's and they enjoy the casual games and aren't really interested in the WSOP stuff.  I believe the Velin's and Shippen's feel the same way.

Jordan feel's the $300 level would be too steep for him but he'd be willing to participate in whatever we can do.

Re: Ragged Aces First Annual WSOP Tournament

After sending out a poll message and compiling the results (as of today), the interest looks to be as follows:

    • Willing to buy-in for $300: 2 (need 8)
    • $250: 0 + 2 = 2 (need 10)
    • $200: 4 + 2 = 6 (need 12)
    • $150: 1 + 6 = 7 (need 16)
    • $100: 0 + 7 = 7 (need 25)
    • $0: 12

Even if we did some kind of tricky math with an imbalance of chips so everyone that has responded so far could pay the max in an effort to send one player to the WSOP, we only have 7 total players so far and could only put together a total purse of $1550 in that scenario.

We might get some more responses to the poll by Friday, but I'm going to assume at this point that there won't be much change in the numbers.

What does this mean?  Sadly, we won't be sending someone to the WSOP from the RaggedAces Group this year.  There just isn't enough interest.  As for the Satellite game night on the 12th and the big game on the 26th.  I'm changing them to reflect the desires of the group.

April 26th will be our first Ragged Aces "Big Ace" (RABA) tournament with a $100 buy-in for $3000 in chips.  Each player may buy up to two $50 add-on's through the first 3 blind levels ($1500 chips per add-on).  Payout's will be to the top three players in a 50%/30%/20% split.  With 7 players that buy-in for $100 with no add-ons that would equate to $350/$210/$140.  This will be a fun "high-stakes" (for us) tournament and I hope we can get more of you to come out and play with the 7 who expressed interest in the RAWSOP.

April 12th will be the last chance to win a seat (or two) to the RABA tournament.  The satellite is $20 with a seat to the RABA tournament for every 5 entries.  For those that don't want to play in the satellite tournament, we will play dealers choice ring game (cash) poker on up to 3 tables (dealer must choose from HORSE poker games with no wild cards) - players at the table may agree to play any particular game for some agreed upon length of time as well.  Minimum buy-in for the cash game is $20 but you may buy-in for whatever amount you feel comfortable (and rebuy at any time).
